"The Paper" "Rock Bottom"

"Arrgh!" is the first segment of the 17th episode of SpongeBob SquarePants.

At the Krusty Krab, SpongeBob shouts in excitement claiming he found eight gold doubloons. Upon hearing this, Mr. Krabs jumps over to SpongeBob, then realizing that SpongeBob and Patrick are playing a board game, and that SpongeBob does not have any real dubloons. Patrick tells him the name of the game, The Flying Dutchman's Treasure Hunt, and claims it is based on a real treasure hunt. Mr. Krabs wins 17 times in a row, and SpongeBob wants to go home and sleep. However, Mr. Krabs seems to be addicted to the game, and keeps on persuading him to play more.

SpongeBob goes to sleep, and the next morning he sees Mr. Krabs in a pirate ship. Mr. Krabs tells him that he's on a treasure hunt, and SpongeBob and Patrick decide to join him. But, they goof of while trying learn how to be pirates, and crash the boat in doing so. They follow instructions, until they get to the two-leaved seaweed . Mr. Krabs also tells them that they're not allowed to look at the map. The map tells them to go 10,000 paces east, and Mr. Krabs asks Patrick which way is east. He looks at a compass, and points west. After 10,000 paces, there is nothing, and Mr. Krabs realizes Patrick directed them west, and proceeds to fire him.

After going around 9,552 paces east, they set up a camp. Patrick and SpongeBob look at the map. They realize that it's their board game taped to a piece of old paper. Mr. Krabs catches them, and they beg for mercy outside. However, they find the 'X', and start digging. They find the treasure, but Mr. Krabs wants it all for himself and they argue. The Flying Dutchman is woken up, and congratulates SpongeBob and Patrick for saving him "a lot of digging". He keeps the treasure, but gives them two gold doubloons. As he is captain, Mr. Krabs asks for a reward, but only receives a tiny plastic treasure chest.

  • When SpongeBob wakes up to find Mr. Krabs yelling, a bell sound is heard, yet there is no bell on the ship.
  • The scene where Mr. Krabs shows Fred out of the Krusty Krab and yells "MY LEG!!!" has become a popular hit on YouTube.
  • When SpongeBob wakes up the next morning, he is wearing just his underwear, but after he talks to Mr. Krabs, he has pants on.
  • This episode represented the letter "X" in the Atlantis SquarePantis marathon.
  • There is a deleted scene where a vision shows Mr. Krabs sitting atop a and sniffing a pile of treasure. That scene was cut for unknown reasons.
  • This is the first time Patrick works at the Krusty Krab, although he is fired a second later.
  • It reveals that the X in the middle of the gameboard is made of sand/flour/some odd form of powder - but when Mr. Krabs forms it into a real live treasure map, he can open and close it without spilling out any of the materials.
  • The game cards of the game board are a spoof of the Monopoly game cards.
  • When Spongebob picks Patrick up the barrel chair is overturned.
