The Babies Scare Angelica on Halloween Rugrats NickSplat

"Candy Bar Creep Show" is the first segment of the ninth episode of Rugrats, and also the first Halloween episode of the series.

Synopsis[]

On Halloween, the babies are confused by the sight of seeing the adults dressing up in costumes and decorating the Pickles' house for the occasion and wonder what's going on. Angelica tells them that it's Halloween and then brags that she's being allowed to go trick-or-treating. She then shows off the treat that the adults are giving out - a Reptar Bar, a chocolate bar that turns the consumer's tongue green. The babies are excited, but Angelica says they're too young for trick-or-treating.

That night, the babies see the trick-or-treaters going in to the haunted house that the adults have set up outside. When they see the trick-or-treaters running out with Reptar Bars in hand, they come to the conclusion that they have to scream to get the candy themselves. However, when Stu and Didi hear them screaming, they think that the babies are being frightened by the haunted house and close the curtain. Tommy then figures that they need to be inside the haunted house to get the candy.

While nobody is looking, the babies sneak into the haunted house, and are mystified by the decorations; Phil and Lil play around with a bowl of spaghetti that's supposed to be brains (though they think it's a bowl of worms) and Chuckie gets seasick looking at a funhouse mirror. Just then, they notice another group of trick-or-treaters, one of whom is Angelica (in an angel costume), arriving and being given Reptar Bars. When the older kids enter the haunted house, they are spooked out of their wits by Phil and Lil's spaghetti-covered reflections in the mirror and Tommy accidentally covering himself with a sheet. The trick-or-treaters flee the house, leaving behind their bags of candy. When Grandpa Lou comes in to check what's going on, he too is startled by the "spooks" and tosses his mask, which then appears to come alive because it landed on Chuckie, scaring Grandpa out of the place too.

The babies come out of hiding and, seeing the bags of candy that Angelica and the other big kids left behind, take them inside the house. As the babies enjoy the Reptar Bars, Angelica and Lou insist to Stu and Drew that there are real monsters inside the haunted house, which the two seriously doubt. When Lou asks that they go inside and prove him wrong, Stu and Drew argue over who's going in first, all the while Angelica keeps screaming "I want my Reptar Bar!!"

Trivia[]

  • Although the babies aren't allowed to participate in Halloween in this episode, in "The Trial", it is mentioned that Tommy did go trick-or-treating on Halloween in a bunny rabbit costume. They would eventually get to trick-or-treat in the series' second Halloween episode, "Curse of The Werewuff", seven seasons later.
