"Dunces and Dragons" (also known as "Lost in Time" in the promotional spots) is the 66th episode of SpongeBob SquarePants.

Synopsis[]

SpongeBob and Patrick go to the "Medieval Moments" stadium/restaurant to watch a jousting tournament. When they arrive, they are picked to take part in the jousting. Patrick's seahorse proves so fast that his lance flies out of his hand, rendering him easy for SpongeBob to send into the air. SpongeBob's seahorse, for some reason, then launches him high in the air as well.

SpongeBob and Patrick find themselves having landed in a small field in a medieval Bikini Bottom. A group of knights on seahorses surround them and lock them in the dungeons because they think they are witches. There, SpongeBob and Patrick meet Squidly, Squidward's ancestor who used to be the king's royal fool before he 'royally messed up'. SpongeBob, Patrick and Squidly are sent to see King Krabs (Mr. Krabs' ancestor), who orders them to be executed because of an insulting song they sang in front of him. However, the king's daughter, Princess Pearl, reminds him of a prophecy in a stained glass window, saying that two brave knights will fall from the sky and will be sent by the king to defeat the dragon that is destroying the city. Just then, the dragon in question, a giant jellyfish, smashes through the wall with the prophecy on it. Under the orders of Planktonimor (Plankton's ancestor), it kidnaps Pearl and flicks King Krabs into the guillotine, smashing it just before SpongeBob can be executed. King Krabs, seeing a never-before-seen section of the prophecy, orders SpongeBob and Patrick to defeat the dragon, sending Squidly out with them.

On the way, the trio stop off at the Blacksmith's to get some armor and weapons, only to find that all of the weapons are too heavy except for the jellyfish net. When they reach the bridge to Planktonamor's tower, they are attacked by its guardian - the 'Dark Knight', who is revealed to be a medieval Sandy (who, unlike the present Sandy, does not need an air helmet). SpongeBob ultimately defeats the Dark Knight due to his karate prowess, and chooses to spare her life. Amazed, the Dark Knight decides to follow SpongeBob, Patrick and Squidly on their quest and learn a trifle of Karate. Back at his castle, King Krabs receives a note saying that Princess Pearl will die if he doesn't surrender his throne to Planktonimor.

SpongeBob, Patrick, Squidly and the Dark Knight make it to the top of Planktonimor's tower, where SpongeBob distracts Planktonimor while Patrick, Squidly and the Dark Knight try to rescue Pearl. However, the Dragon soon arrives and manages to zap the heroes, but SpongeBob saves them, but giving the Dragon a Krabby Patty he had been saving for lunch. The Dragon likes the burger so much that it switches to SpongeBob's team and zaps Planktonimor.

Later, King Krabs is cooking Krabby Patties for the dragon. However, when Squidly starts playing his clarinet, everybody hates it, and the seahorses become so scared that they launch SpongeBob and Patrick into the air. They land back at the tournament in the present. SpongeBob believes the adventure must have just been a dream, but Squidly still being with them suggests otherwise.

Notes[]

  • In recent British and Irish airings, the scene where Hechman tempted to kill himself is cut due to the innuendo.
