"Monsters, Get Real!" and "Snorched If You Do, Snorched If You Don't" are the two segments that make up the second episode of Aaahh!!! Real Monsters, and also the series' pilot episode.
Synopsis[]
"Monsters, Get Real"[]
A human child named Bradley is in his bedroom during the night reading a monster comic when his father walks in and reminds him that the monster comics will give him nightmares. Bradley pretends to fall asleep, but quickly wakes back up to finish reading his monster comic as soon as his father leaves, and scoffs at the possibility of monsters being real. Suddenly, a figure under Bradley's bed is shown with its eyes turning red and makes a chomping sound with its teeth, waking Bradley instantly. The figure under the bed is revealed to be Ickis, who is reading his monster manual. Bradley looks under his bed and catches Ickis in the act, causing the monster to shriek in terror and run out of the bedroom, accidentally leaving his manual behind.
Ickis runs back to the City Dump, muttering to himself about his failed attempt at scaring. Later, in the Monster Academy classroom, the Gromble is informing his students that tonight will be their first actual test of scaring humans. Krumm is the first to take the test through a viewfinder. As the monsters cheer for Krumm's success at scaring a human couple, Ickis slowly walks inside, trying to be as unobtrusive as possible, but to no avail. The Gromble picks him and Ickis is next to use the viewfinder. The video shows Ickis' under-the-bed scaring trick, then shrieking in terror when he saw Bradley peek under the bed. The Gromble rebukes Ickis for leaving his monster manual at the child's house and threatens punishment (courtesy of the Snorch) if he does not get the manual back.
That evening, Oblina tells Ickis that she and Krumm can't do his assignment for him since then they'd get punished for that, but they will support him. The monsters sneak through the sewers and come across a monster named Grungy, Krumm's uncle, who gives them directions through the sewers. They crawl through a pipe, where they encounter a turbulent sewer water wave, which flushes them down through the exit. They make it to Bradley's house via toilet and hide in Bradley's closet. Ickis steps out to retrieve the manual, only to find that Bradley's friends are in the room as well. The monster quickly vacillates and runs back into the closet. Krumm and Oblina sneak around the room to grab the manual, but are mistaken for toys by the children. When the children decide to throw Krumm and Oblina out the window, Ickis (who was watching his friends get tortured by the children) triggers his scare mode in front of the children, causing them to run in fear.
Later, back in their dorm room, Krumm and Oblina congratulate Ickis for his scare back in Bradley's bedroom. Ickis says that he will never let his monster manual out of his sight and decides to read a bit of it right now, only to discover that he grabbed one of Bradley's storybooks.
"Snorched if You Do, Snorched if You Don't"[]
The next day, Ickis frets about the Gromble punishing him for his failing to retrieve his monster manual. He thinks that he has gotten a reprieve when his locker tells him that the Gromble is sick and won't be coming in today, but to Ickis' dismay, the Gromble does show up. Ickis again thinks he is off the hook when the Gromble says he's taking everyone on a trip to the slime pits, but his relief is cut short when the Gromble asks him where his manual is. Ickis sheepishly admits that he didn't get it back, and the Gromble has Ickis escorted to the Snorch's office, where he has to wait with several other students to receive their discipline.
Oblina and Krumm again venture out to Bradley's house to get Ickis' manual. There, Bradley's dad is trying to get him to go back into his room, which he refuses to go back into after the trauma he suffered last night. Before Oblina and Krumm can get the manual, unfortunately, Bradley takes a look at it himself, and then tosses it out the window when the book's red glow frightens him. The two monsters go to pick the book up off the street, but it winds up on the fender of a car. The monsters follow the car to a car wash, and when Krumm attempts to get the manual himself, he ends up going through the car wash himself and receives an unwanted bath. The manual winds up on the street again, and just as Oblina and Krumm are about to retrieve it, they get picked up by a garbage truck. Fortunately, after they arrive at the waste disposal plant, they finally manage to get the manual before it falls into the incinerator.
Back at the Monster Academy, it's now Ickis' turn to see the Snorch. Ickis pleads to the Snorch and his assistant, Zimbo, not to punish him, when suddenly Oblina and Krumm arrive, telling Ickis they've got his manual back. However, Zimbo tells Ickis that this changes nothing, and the Gromble informs Oblina and Krumm that they now have to be punished as well for doing Ickis' assignment. The episode ends on Ickis, Oblina and Krumm receiving their punishment - they have to listen to the Snorch singing soprano.
