[edit] Character information

Freddie Benson was born on 4 February 1995 at 3:45am. He is the tech producer of the webshow with Carly Shay and Sam Puckett. In the first episode,[1] Freddie videoed his two friends Carly and Sam making fun of their teacher, Ms. Briggs (Mindy Sterling).

He also has a great-great grandfather who ran a circus group called the "Fencin' Bensons" and became obsessed with it. He forced his son to learn, his son's son was forced to learn, and Freddie's mom was forced to learn, and in the episode "iFence" was shown to be an excellent fencer. She was afraid that Freddie would end up like his great-great grandfather, so she didn't let him fence until Carly and Freddie talked her into it.

[edit] Mrs. Benson

Freddie's mother, Mrs. Benson (b. 8 July 1971) is exceedingly overprotective, embarrassing, obnoxious, and nosy. She often embarrasses Freddie in front of Carly, Spencer, Sam, and occasionally in front of his schoolmates. Freddie loves his mother, but he thinks she is trying too hard to be a good mom. She is portrayed by Mary Scheer

Examples of Ms. Benson's overprotectiveness and embarrassment:

  • Makes Freddie sleep on the floor so there is no chance he'll fall off of his bed [2]
  • Frequently gives Freddie tick baths. (She claims that they hide in leg hair, even though he has none.)
  • Scolds him about his posture and even has a rule about it: "You won't get respect if your back's not erect." Sam finds this rule funny and spits her watermelon in Freddie's face and laughs.
  • Signs herself and Freddie up for mother-son synchronized swimming lessons.
  • Prohibits him from eating fruit because she's afraid of Freddie being allergic to fruit.
  • Makes him sign a paper saying that he shampooed twice after he showered.
  • Won't let Freddie use a fork because she is afraid that he'll stab his tongue.
  • In iStakeout, it was mentioned that she freaked out when Freddie spilled a tiny drop of mustard on his church pants. Carly finds the term "church pants" very funny.
  • She also searched everywhere for cloud block when Freddie was afraid of getting a 'cloud burn'.
  • She only gives Freddie an $8 monthly allowance because she's afraid that if she gives him more, he'll "buy a bus ticket and leave her".
  • She also freaked out when Freddie got a real tattoo of Sam Puckett and she said "Fredward Benson you got a tattoo!" and "to a doctor to have that blemish removed!" it was also mentioned in iStakeout.

After "iFence", many fans believe that she is no longer "overprotective" of Freddie. However after her treatment of Spencer, to replace Freddie, this is unlikely.

[edit] Personal life

Freddie is the technical producer of iCarly. In the pilot episode, [3], Freddie agrees to record the talent auditions that Carly and Sam were forced to hold, but he accidentally recorded the girls making fun of Miss Briggs' "crazy, pointy boobs". Freddie was jealous of Carly's crush, Jake Crandall (Austin Butler), who was performing on iCarly, but Freddie is delighted when he discovers Jake is a terrible singer. Freddie fixes his voice so Carly kisses Freddie on the nose for fixing everything.[4]

We learned that in iSpy a Mean Teacher that Freddie is extremely allergic to bees.

Freddie once had a huge crush on Carly, although she isn't interested; later on, it is hinted that he may have gotten over her. In turn, many other girls have had a crush on him from time to time, notably three girls named Valerie (a friend from their school), Shannon (a girl Gibby likes, also at their school), and Melanie (Sam's physically-identical-but-polar-opposite twin sister). However, the first was only interested in having him as a producer for a rival web show, not in dating him. On the other hand, the other two actually had genuine romantic feelings for him; Shannon had a huge crush on him (possibly even bigger than his crush on Carly), even to the point of staring at him while smiling suggestively and making flirty poses and sending him tons of love-letters, which made him nervous, although he still liked her personality and her looks. Melanie also has a crush on Freddie, but he was thinking that she was merely Sam in disguise because Sam pranked him earlier, and when she kissed him, he became extremely paranoid. All three girls were insulted by Sam for being attracted to Freddie.

Freddie once helped Carly and Sam search for 6 baby chicks, before it was too late. Carly and Sam found the last chick in their elevator behind the window. Freddie pushed the bottom button on the elevator, and although Carly and Sam hurried to get the last chick, the chick from the window was gone. Freddie made himself guilty, until time was up. Spencer, who was stuck in the heating duct the entire time, coughed up the last chick after the kids pulled him out.[5] Once, Carly and Sam had an argument because Carly gave Sam a one-of-a-kind iCarly T-shirt, which Sam traded for tickets for a Cuttlefish concert, which Carly really wanted to go to. In an online poll, Freddie revealed that most voters picked "Carly and Sam are both acting silly and they should just make up and be friends again."[6].

Freddie and Sam made a bet once over the meaning of the acronym MPEG. Freddie thought it was "Mega Pixel Electronic Gallery", but Sam knew it was actually "Moving Picture Experts Group". Carly just asks is they can say that MPEG stands for "Most Pimples Enjoy Gravy" and move on. They bet that the loser would get a tattoo of the winner's face. Of course, Freddie lost and got a tattoo of Sam's face, much to Freddie's mom's disgust.[7]

Freddie once helped Sam, by not letting Carly leave, because she was their best friend, after ruining Carly's interview.[8]

Freddie and Sam often hang out and make rude comments about each other, although they are genuinely friends and have even kissed; in addition, Sam also insults any girl who is attracted to him.
