Ghostzone

The Ghost Zone is a parallel dimension to the human realm that is home to all ghosts in Danny Phantom.

The Ghost Zone[]

Essentially the home of all ghost characters in the series, the Ghost Zone is a realm where all solids, liquids, and gases are composed entirely of various forms of ectoplasm. This substance is not only physical, but also ethereal - in other words, it can act as energy. Ectoplasm has quintessence properties, capable of animating inanimate objects. Portals between Earth and the Ghost Zone can open naturally. These portals not only lead from the human world to the ghost zone and vice versa but also through time. The Ghost Zone features a wide variety of locations, all of them accessible through doors of unusual shapes, sizes, styles, and usually have something to do with what lies through them.

A natural crack or artificial ghost portal is necessary to enter or exit the Ghost Zone. Only a few man-made portals exist: one created by the Fentons (which was destroyed in "Phantom Planet"), one created by Vlad Masters, the prototype small portal the three had in their college days), and a portable generator that Johnny 13 stole from the Fentons and attached to their motorcycle. Casper's 1950s mirror that belonged to Sidney Poindexter functions as a portal of sorts as well. However, there are also many other naturally created entrances around the world, which can open and close at any given time. The Infi-map is useful for finding these portals. Natural fissures have been known to transport people passing through them at different time periods. Some ghosts, such as Wolf and Dark Danny, have also been able to create time portals at will. The Bermuda Triangle is mentioned by Freeze in Infinite Realms as a common place where portals are created to the ghost zone and lead to other times.

The Ghost Zone features many different locations that appear as islands floating in space. These areas are different from each other, sometimes due to a ghost's powers. An example could be a black and white version of Casper High stuck in the 1950s, or a medieval kingdom where time doesn't move forward and technology doesn't work.

One property that seems to remain mostly constant is that humans who enter the Ghost Zone are intangible to everything in the Ghost Zone. However, this is only mentioned in the episodes involving Walker's prison. In "Fright Night", you can see a map of the Ghost Zone created by Danny, Tucker and Sam during "Prisoners of Love" and "Fanning the Flames" (the latter the trio mentioned being designing a map of the Phantom Zone). As the map indicates, it is a work in progress. It is revealed in "Livin' Large" that Earth and the fantasy zone have a symbiotic bond, going so far as to the point that if the Ghost Zone is destroyed, Earth will be destroyed in the process as well, and vice versa. Additionally, this makes it so that if a person goes to the Ghost Zone, they gain the abilities the ghost can do in the world from him, such as walking through walls.
