Krusty Towers

"Krusty Towers" is the 17th SpongeBob SquarePants episode from season four.

Brief summary: Mr. Krabs transforms the Krusty Krab into a hotel to earn more money. SpongeBob and Squidward work for the only guest Patrick, and Squidward quits his job from Patrick asking him to do silly requests.

Squidward and SpongeBob are walking to work, and they realize something is wrong with the Krusty Krab. Mr. Krabs has turned it into a hotel. The Krusty Krab is on top of the hotel serving as a hotel restaurant. He says that while he was on vacation, he realized that hotels make a lot of money, so he wants to make the Krusty Krab into one. He says that the employees must tend to the consumer's every need, even if it is the most ridiculous request.

A normal Customer leaves the resturant after he learns he must book a hotel room to eat there.

Patrick is the first hotel guest. When Squidward carries Patrick's bags he tries to take the guest elevator but Mr. Krabs stops him and Squidward takes the employee elevator. When it opens, it turns out to be stairs. After many ridiculous requests, Squidward gets very mad, so he gives up being an employee, quits his job and has a free vacation.

He walks out the door and comes back in as a vacationer instead of an employee, and asks very ridiculous requests to Mr. Krabs and SpongeBob. After getting an indoor swimming pool, Patrick jumps in, and the force causes the hotel to collapse (in a refrence to how the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center Collapsed) leaving only the original Krusty Krab Standing.

Patrick, SpongeBob, Squidward, and Mr. Krabs luckily survive, however end up in the hospital with massive injuries. When Mr. Krabs sees the hospital fee ($15,000) he wants to make that kind of money, and so he tells Squidward, SpongeBob and Patrick that they are going to medical school.

  • The title may be a play on the popular British sitcom Fawlty Towers, a show about a man named Basil Fawlty who ran a hotel.
  • When Squidward said "nothing like getting back to the basics", it may have been a parody of Back to Basics a Beenie Man, Ginuwine, and most recently a Christina Aguilera album.
  • Patrick referenced Godzilla by drawing himself as a giant monster attacking air-fighter planes.
  • The Krusty Towers fell very similar to the Twin Towers that collapsed on September 11, 2001, despite resembling fictional animation.

  • The violin music from Squilliam Returns which Mr. Krabs plays on the world's smallest violin can be heard when Mr. Krabs is imitating Squidward saying that "he has to work for a living".
  • We see in this episode that Patrick signs his name by drawing himself the size of Godzilla which is being shot by fighter jets, which is displayed with gunfire sounds and airplane sounds (it is possible that Patrick didn't know how to sign his name).
  • The scene where Squidward quits is similar to when he quits in Can You Spare a Dime?.
  • This is the 15th episode in a row in season 4 having somthing to do with the Krusty Krab.
  • Patrick says he doesn't like the crust on Krabby Patties, but he only eats 1 crustless patty (in the whole show so far).
    • This is the second time crust is peeled from a bun. The first was Bubble Buddy.

Mr. Krabs: Well, you got your stinkin' sandwich, now EAT IT!
Squidward: Oh I'm not going to eat this...you are!
Mr. Krabs: What?! You're out of your mind if you think I'm going to eat that!
SpongeBob: Psst...that's not really a Krabby Patty with cheese, toenail clippings, and nose hair.
Mr. Krabs: [chuckling] Oh, now I get ya, boy! Ha ha! All right, Squidward! [takes a bite to realize it is a Krabby Patty with just toenail clippings and hair, Squidward starts laughing].
Mr. Krabs: SPONGEBOB!
SpongeBob: Sorry Mr. Krabs, we were all out of cheese.
Patrick: [in his room, covered with cheese] Hooray!
  • Squidward: Jeez Patrick...what you do you put in here, rocks?
[the suitcase falls open to reveal they are rocks]
Squidward: Patrick, these are rocks!
Patrick: I don't tell you how to live your life!
Patrick: Squidward, wait!
Squidward: What, now!
Patrick: I don't like crusts on my sandwich.
Squidward: Its a bun, its all crust. How am I supposed to cut the crust off a bun?!
Patrick: Peel it.

(Squidward peels the crust off, angrily)

Squidward: There, happy now?
Patrick: Yay! (eats the Krabby Patty)
  • Mr. Krabs: Aw, that hotel was a bad idea from the start!
Nurse: Your bill, sir.
Mr. Krabs: $15,000?! [gasps]
Squidward: You're not going to have a heart attack, are you?
Mr. Krabs: Forget hotels! This hospital is where the money is!
Patrick: This is a hospital?
Mr Krabs: Pack your bags, boys! You're going to medical school!
SpongeBob and Patrick: Hooray!
Squidward: Oh boy...
