Craig Bartlett announced a long time ago and said he based the series on his pet rat. He says he will make 35 episodes for the first season but might expand it. [1]

In an online interview on The Arun Mehta Show on October 4, 2017, Bartlett confirmed that with the focus on getting Hey Arnold!: The Jungle Movie going, Nickelodeon was not interested in approving Sky Rat for production.[2]
