Rocko and Heffer go Trick-or-Treating Rocko's Modern Life NickSplat

"Sugar Frosted Frights" is the first segment of the 27th episode of Rocko's Modern Life, and also the series' Halloween episode.

Synopsis[]

A vulture narrator appears to tell us the story of the Hopping Hessian, a mercenary who lost one of his legs during a war. Every Halloween night, the Hessian's ghost rises from the grave to search for his missing leg. However, the narrator is quickly interrupted by a reporter who cuts the story to return to the news, where the host wishes everybody has a happy Halloween and avoids any encounters with the Hessian.

At Rocko's house, Rocko and Heffer have suited up to go trick-or-treating. Rocko is wearing a Really Really Big Man costume, while Heffer has a glow-in-the-dark jack-o'-lantern tattoo on his chest. They go to Filburt's house and find him hiding under a sheet. Filburt explains to them, when he was little, his crazy aunt Gretchen always told him that candy was poisonous and that if he even touched it, the Hopping Hessian would come after him.

Filburt becomes addicted to candy.

Rocko and Heffer take Filburt trick-or-treating with them anyway. When Filburt eats one piece of candy, he goes into an absolute sugar rush and then rushes to another house, demanding the occupant to give him the plate, but to his dismay, it only has pennies. After rushing inside the house and swallowing a bag of sugar. Filburt runs out into the dark woods, crossing the bridge by the old photo house where the Hopping Hessian lost his leg.

Rocko and Heffer find Filburt in the cemetery, chewing on a tombstone (which he thought was a giant chocolate bar). Filburt then passes out, his sugar rush having now worn off, and he swears to never eat candy again. As they try to leave the woods, Rocko and Heffer are then startled by the crack of a stick (made by a squirrel and a rabbit trying to scare them), but Filburt doesn't care at all and just keeps walking. Just when they get close to the old photo house, they look behind to see the Hopping Hessian coming after them, raising a sword in the air. Just as they reach the bridge, the Hessian intercepts them and throws his missing leg at Filburt. The scene ends on Filburt's broken glasses falling towards the river.

The vulture narrator from the beginning of the episode then reappears, saying that the story isn't over yet. The scene cuts to Halloween night of the next year and we see that Filburt is alright. He goes to Rocko's house where he finds Rocko and Heffer looking at last Halloween's photos, along with the Hopping Hessian and his leg, revealed to be Gordon; it turns out the Hessian and Gordon scaring them last year was a prank they always do for Halloween. Just as they're getting ready for this Halloween, however, Filburt, nervously asks them exactly who took the pictures, pointing out one where all of them are in the frame.
