"Talking Turkey" is the 47th episode of CatDog, and also the series' Thanksgiving special.

Summary[]

On Thanksgiving day, Dog is making his annual list of the things he's thankful for, but all Cat can think about is eating turkey. He is expecting a turkey to be delivered to their house, but the delivery man, Mr. Sunshine, informs him that the check that he sent to the company bounced. As Cat sulks about not having a turkey dinner to eat on Thanksgiving, Dog tunes in to the local Thanksgiving parade on TV. At the parade, Rancid Rabbit is ready to cook and eat the turkey trapped on his float, and he tells the driver to speed up. However, as a result of the driver's reckless driving, the float is totaled, allowing the turkey, whose name is Walt, to escape, snagging a mime's costume to use as a disguise.

Trying to hide from Rancid and the cops, Walt shows up at CatDog's house, claiming to be a door-to-door salesman who is selling mime lessons. Although Dog actually believes this, Cat instantly sees through his disguise and invites him in, with the obvious intent of cooking and eating him. Eventually, Walt fesses up to the pair that he is indeed a turkey and is trying to get to Turkeyburg, a utopia for turkeys where they never have to fear being eaten. Dog promises to Walt that he and Cat will help him, but Cat is already sharpening his axe and hungrily starts chasing Walt all over the yard, despite Dog's protests. Eventually, Walt surrenders, crying that Cat doesn't know what it's like to be hunted and fearing for his life all the time. Cat, remembering how much he and Dog suffer at the hands of the Greasers, is moved by Walt's words and puts the axe down, finally siding with Dog and agreeing to help Walt get to safety.

Since Mervis and Dunlap are coming by for Thanksgiving, CatDog offers to give Walt a new disguise (before he tore up his mime costume when he admitted his real identity to them), dressing him up as Louie XIV. When Mervis and Dunlap arrive, CatDog introduces their new friend, "Walt XIV", and then tell them that they decided to instead have peanut-butter-and-jelly sandwiches for Thanksgiving this year, claiming that it's what all the rich trendy cities are doing. However, the Greasers (and Eddie the Squirrel) then crash the party, demanding CatDog to serve them some turkey (earlier in the episode, Lube was shown having cooked a map of Turkey). In an attempt to distract their guests and party-crashers, Cat hastily sings a last-minute song and then suggests that they go out to play football. As they're playing football (using Eddie as the ball), however, Rancid shows up, asking if they've seen the turkey that escaped from his float. After Dog tells him that they haven't and are just playing football, Rancid throws Eddie at Walt, knocking him out of his disguise.

Rancid, the cops, and the Greasers chase after CatDog and Walt, who eventually manage to elude them by hiding under a bridge. Walt frets that he's ruined CatDog's Thanksgiving and offers to turn himself in, but CatDog then gets another idea. Using some garbage found under the bridge, CatDog builds a turkey costume out of a hollow wrecking ball, along with another disguise for Walt. After wishing good luck to Walt in getting to Turkeyburg, CatDog jumps out from under the bridge in their turkey costume and taunts their pursuers into chasing after them, successfully managing to elude them in doing so. After a brief interlude where Walt reunites with his mother in Turkeyburg, we cut to later that evening, when Winslow serves everyone a seemingly cooked turkey that CatDog left for them, but they find that it is made of peanut butter and jelly. CatDog then arrives home and says happy Thanksgiving, but their guests are not at all happy about the fake turkey they were served and decide to eat CatDog instead. (Fortunately for CatDog, the episode ends before they can actually start carving.)
