Rocko and Heffer with turkeys

"Turkey Time" is the first segment of the 49th episode of Rocko's Modern Life, and also the series' Thanksgiving episode.

Summary[]

The day before Thanksgiving, Heffer is helping Rocko pick up everything he needs for his first Thanksgiving dinner in O-Town and informs him that all he needs now is a turkey. The two go to see Ed, who is setting up Conglom-O's annual turkey giveaway, and ask him for a turkey. He initially refuses to give them one, since it's not 9:00 yet, but relents when they keep incessantly begging. Rocko invites the turkey Ed gives them to have dinner at his house, much to Heffer's amusement. When Heffer tells him that he's supposed to kill and cook the turkey, Rocko is horrified and outright refuses. Heffer attempts to do the deed instead, but when he takes a good look at the innocent turkey, he can't bring himself to kill it either.

Meanwhile, everyone else in O-Town is ready to pick up turkeys from Ed, but when he gets his turkey dispenser started, he finds that all the turkeys that were in it have escaped. As it turns out, the turkeys have all fled to Rocko's house. After Rocko and Heffer see a TV news report about the turkeys having gone missing, Ed shows up at Rocko's house, asking if he still has the turkey Ed gave him earlier. Rocko claims that the turkey he bought ran away, but Ed is not convinced. Ed then calls up Filburt and tells them that Rocko is having a big dinner party for Thanksgiving, but has not invited them. Filburt, angry that Rocko didn't invite him, calls up everyone else in O-Town to tell them about this. They then all call Rocko and say they know that he's having turkey for Thanksgiving, despite his insistence that he isn't. The TV news reporter then badmouths Rocko, which spurs the wallaby into saying he'll throw that Thanksgiving dinner party that everyone thinks he's having.

The next day, everyone in O-Town shows up at Rocko's house for his dinner party. As Heffer keeps everyone distracted and eventually presents them with what appears to be a giant cooked turkey, Rocko hides the real turkeys in his bedroom. After the party, just as everyone is leaving, Ed then finds packaging for vegetarian turkey in Rocko's trash can, and when he comes back to check, the turkeys crash through the floor of Rocko's bedroom, revealing to everyone that they were fooled. Furious, everyone stuffs Rocko and Heffer into the trash bins and then prepare to drop a piano on the tied-up turkeys. However, Ed is the only one who actually lets go of the rope holding up the piano, with Filburt explaining that he and the others now can't bring themselves to kill the turkeys. Ed, too callous to share their sympathy, yells that they're just turkeys, during which he jumps in the middle of the turkeys and causes them to scatter, and demands they drop the rope; as a result, Filburt and the others then promptly drop the piano on him. Later that evening, Rocko and Heffer have a battered and bruised Ed feed corn to the turkeys.
